Tracing in Coreldraw X3/X4

CorelDraw is my favorite software. It’s very easy to make all the designs whatever it is. I have CorelDraw Graphic Suite X4.

Here i am explaining How to make multicolor image to finest illustration?. There is one option PowerTRACE in coloreldraw (x3/x4 versions only)

Step 1

Open a color image in Photoshop and convert to Greyscale. If resolution is below 100dpi will be fine.

Step 2

Clear the background and cut out the image and paste in a new layer. See the following picture. Adjust the bright areas to little darker. Magic wand tool will help you. Reduce the tolerance (10) and select the bright areas and right click Select similar, all bright places will be select. Then apply Ctrl + L and adjust the output levels from right to left. Bright areas now getting more dark. Save a .jpg file format. See the altered picture b.

Step 3

Open the software CorelDraw Graphic Suite X3/X4 and import that file. If you import file the property bar shows ‘Trace Bitmap’ button on the top. Select the ‘Outline Trace’ then select Line Art. If you hover the Line Art it will show the hint of ‘Best suited for BW sketches and Illustrations’

Step 4

Now the PowerTRACE Screen will display. You can zoom the picture for details. Right side have the settings and change the settings as per the following picture

Next select the ‘Colors menu’. There is three options, First one Colors mode – Grey Scale, next No. of colors – 6, then sort colors by Frequency and down there is 6 grey colors display one by one. That means the picture have mixed with 6 colors. When you select any one of them, the vertical lines indicate on the picture left which area that particular color filled. You can change the colors down there is a option called ‘edit’. Go to edit and adjust the colors.

Step 6

Change the color mode to Grey Scale to CMYK. Change the color as you like. Here i have been converted in three colors White, Majenta, Black.

Step 7

Select ok. Now you got a wonderful illustration. You may use this picture Whenever you want. I added in to a t-shirt design. You can change the ‘type of image’ option to logo, detailed logo, clipart and all from this way.
